          Twitter (renamed X in July 2023) supports all standard emojis, and these can be inserted via emoji keyboard or picker.

          Twemoji was initially created in 2014 as an open source emoji project, created and owned by Twitter. However, following the privatization of Twitter in April 2022, the project appears to have been discontinued by X.

          The project has been continued as a standalone open source project by former Twitter staff alongside members of the Discord design team.

          In February 2023 the Twemoji set ceased to be used by Twitter / X on mobile devices, replaced by the device's native emoji designs.

          After January 2024  the dedicated Twemoji website was also shut down (an archived version of the site from January 2024 can be seen here).
